Similarly I'd bet 20-120 gad would only just get past me (if at all over that range) despite carrying 100hp more.

there are very few cars that can dominate in all road conditions
That's because pretty much all cars are a compromise in one way or another

You have to play to your vehicles strengths when you are willy waving. Most of your heavy powerful RWD cars are good for the serious speed and most of your very light RWD (elise, et al) and light(ish) 4wd's are good off the line. The S2000, Fiat Coupe Turbo (remember the stonk of these in 3rd!) are most useful in the mid-range.

Then there are high powered EVO's an Impreza's which can pretty much compete in them all except for silly 140mph+ stuff. As chav as they are I can't imagine a world without them - it brings a lot of pace to many people for not a great deal of money

Gad don't worry - I can assure you I'm more of a pr*ck on the road than you Today WVM (white van man) wouldn't move over so I undertook him, pulled back into the right-hand lane, dropped to 3rd, slowed to 55mph and then dialled up 130 at full-chat to register my objection Equally, if I was angry enough I'd do it to a lorry even though he'd spend then next 3 miles trying to get back to 56.1111mph

Shocking behaviour.

Wish I'd seen it though

a 60 - 100 run is what, 5/6 seconds? It's not a lot of time to pull out a big gap.

The only way you'll pull out a massive gap on an M series in a stock s2000 is if he hits the brake when you hit the accelerator.

Interesting thread and one I could just give my 2p worth to.

Coming off a big roundabout onto a dual carriageway. Peugot 206 Rallye modded was in front. I was not sure if he was going to boot it so I never and just stayed in 2nd at about 4000rpm. well he did so I did but he had a second headstart and I was not in Vtec. Given that disadvantage I could not pull on him and stopped at C20mph (C being roman ;-))

I'm sure the S is a faster car but there are so many similarly fast cars on the road and just a slight hesitation booting it negates your advantage until stupid speeds. I kind of felt deflated when i could not catch this 206 up to be honest. Just goes to show the S is not a rocket ship!!! lol

Just my 2p's worth.......

My bro's got a E46 M3 and yes i've driven it before anyway questions this. I agree with what's been said, yes it's alot faster car in almost every way.

BUT.....

If the M3 had 3 people in the car this is going to even things up quite considerably.

The Power to weight ratio for both cars:

BMW M3 E46: 220BHP Per Ton
S2000 : 192BHP Per Ton

28BHP per ton difference
i'm sure with the difference of possibly about 130KG more weight in the M3 things should even out a bit.
