Start at a higher speed and a lower gear, the S2000 will look pants if it is not in VTEC as you know. 80kpm in 4th is only just over 4000rpm and so in 5th and 6th even less (6th 2,700rpm or so)

Anyone got the in gear times for M3 And S? They would be more interesting than o-60 or 0-100.

IMHO they are one of the most pointless set of figures for anyone who actually wants to go fast.

Ok so lets say 40-60 is 8 secs in 6th - you'd just change down if you wanted to do it quicker

S2Harv, sorry, but that's all they produced!

In gear times are for people who are too lazy to change gear (i.e. journos). Admittedly, changing gear on most cars isn't a very nice experience whereas in an S2000 it is all part of the fun!

What would be interesting is to find out which is quicker...50 to 70 in 2nd/3rd with the gear change, or 50-70 in 3rd. In an S2000 of course.

It's worth remembering that the S produces roughly 85% of peak torque from 3.5k or so and that the feeling you get when going into VTEC is not necessarily an accurate picture of what is going on with reference to speed and acceleration measurements.

Funny how dead the car can feel below VTEC when you boot it though. For just normal driving it feel fine but if you find yourself out of VTEC when wanting to race to does feel slow up to 6k or so.

I am not suggesting that 40 - 60 in 6th would be interesting

One of the measurements there is 60-100kph in 4th is 49mph start at which point you should be in 2nd in teh S!

I mean what the s can do on cam compared to the BMW in the same gear.

Ie 30 to 60 in 2nd and 60 to whatever in 3rd. The S is in its element there where the BMW *may* not be...

If you have ever felt the whack you get when a M3 is booted , you will be totally underwhelmed with vtec.

I agree with Dan about the 30 - 50 's etc., totally pointless

I felt that when I bought the car .. but then I came from a turbo'ed motor.

It was the one letdown, but now that's been addressed I'm more than happy. In first it's now hard to keep my head away from the seat.

What a totally pointless statement!! If you ever felt the monster thrust when my Impreza's turbo spins up you'd be left feeling flat by an M3!! Nobody buys an S2000 to have their face re-arranged under acceleration!
