Just had a look at chipex, and it says if you make a mistake you can apply the step 2 blending solution to remove the paint.

Yep you can't cock up Chipex, just "wash" the touch up away with the blending solution
Did you mix/shake the paint enough?
I did find some I bought for an old Aston change shade slightly as it got older

Sounds like yet another quack solution looking for a problem.

I use something called 'Patina' on mine. It makes a new car look like a classic.

I think the problem is the touch up dried and didn't wipe away....

Oh well, at least the bonnet is all blue rather then flecked with white (stone) chips....

There is an art to this...and I have had excellent results with Chipped.
The main thing is temperature.
On a warm day only wait a minute before feathering over with the solution.
I agree it is difficult at first.
But practice makes perfect.
