It's not going to make it go faster, so I wouldn't pay more than the normal brands.

Castrol / Motul etc is fine.

The results from the royal purple racing oil with the oil bath removed were impresive , thats replicating oil surge on track. If you are doing a lot of track days the extra cost between this and what you normally buy is not mega bucks.
slightly off topic but this report kind of backs up what the yanks are saying about TCT not lasting on Mobil 1, theres a thread on here somewere about TCT's and various fixes

That's an interesting thread (its where I picked up the oil test link from). There is some inference that Mobil 1 and the TCT problem are linked but the most interesting thing is that stripping out and sandblasting the adjusting thread within the tensioner is said to cure the problem, whereas a new tensioner doesn't always. Way to go if you ever get the TCT noise.

TBH the pictures in the oil test have put me off using Helix Ultra and, like sombody said earlier, if you get a bit of oil surge the Royal Purple might make the difference between a bearing picking up or not. I only change my oil once a year (I only use the car for fun so that equates to about 4k miles) and I think I'm going to go for it at the next oil change.

RP came up in test on an EVO tuning session in a yank mag in June.
(American, not pron)

They cliamed to see several horsepower on the dyno just on the oil change.

Who knows!

Probably just where the car cooled down

But a thinner oil at a given temp will create less resistance.
