Default Roof retraction

I'm going to try to explain it best I can...

When you hit the button to drop the roof, the windows drop, then the roof begins to move, the very front edge of the roof is hinged and that then pivots upwards, mine seems tight and I can't help but release the button each time I see it not pivoting like it should (I fear for the roof material getting ripped). Is this usual or does it just need some lube on the hinges?

I only lube the machanism at the motor, didn't do the hindges. If you are unsure and not comfortable to drop the roof. I would recommend you not to drop the roof, attend any local S2k meet and ask another owner if they could drop theirs and compare it to yours. I am sure they are happy to help.

The work shop manual says use lithium grease on each hinging part
I do this on mine when I do the rubbers with silicon.

Just sounds like a bit of cracking as the material takes up the slack to pull the hinged part over?

The material shouldn't be pulling anything, although it seems like it is, the movement is all done by linkages on the side, so personally I would not be worried about the roof. If the hinges are stiff maybe you should be worried about the motors!

Get some grease on all the linkages.

I am using stuff called white grease, does it matters?

Any grease is better than none. Some grease is petroleum based, which will rot your rubber seals if it gets on them. Stick with what is recommended in the handbook.
