They should be fully stretched with the roof up, no play, the big give away is how the roof sits when it's down, have a look at the before and after pics.

Ah so you shouldn't be able to pull it down with your finger like in your pic?

Thats dead sloppy like mine and floppys (is that a poem?), you should only just be able to get your finger behind it.

Your may still have enough stretch to put the bar in the right place, like I said the before and after pictures are the give away. My S lives outside for the winter thats probably what killed them so I guess they have a finite lifespan.

Floppy, I've got some work getting in the way but will have your kit out I mean your roof repair in the post in a day or two.

Sorry to be a pain just want to know if I should get these, here is my straps as normal and when I pull them down using little pressure:





As you can see it sits quite tight but can still be pulled down easily, here is how far the roof goes down:
