why shouldn't you fit harnesses, because you're solid in a fixed seat & can't move in the event of the roll?

i'm planning on fitting a half-cage with harness bar with seats to fit harnesses through hence my inquiry
Yes - a harness will keep you bolt upright, which increases the chance of you banging your head on the road in the roll. It's okay if you do it properly and fit the cage. Just don't fit a harness by itself unless you're short enough that the hoops will definitely give you pleanty of protection.

O/T - the NCAP ratings never test a rollover either.
The Reno is NCAP5, highest but the roof is paper.
I feel safer in the Honda.

In truth you're probably safer rolling an S2000 than most non-convertable cars. There was a story on the BBC News site a while back about somebody who had a small lorry topple over on top of his S, and he got out fine.
That was my S that the lorry toppled on top of. The rear section of the lorry was resting on the roll hoop, and apart from a bit of a bump of my head, the roll hoop did save my life. The windscreen would not have held up as that was pretty caved in.

The story is still on the BBC website http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/5150136.stm

Have a mate who barrel rolled his 2001 S at around 60mph near Guisborough in Cleveland, coppers were amazed that he got out in one piece with just a fractured arm. The roll hoops and windscreen saved him minor graz on his head.

However if he'd had a passenger on board he/she wouldn't have been so lucky......the gearbox ended up by the passenger seat!!!!!

Ouch, that was quite a bounce then!

I wrecked an old Opel rally car by sliding off a roundabout at 70mph.
Side impact to OSF wheel and crossmember as I broadsided into a wooden telephone pole.
Similar thing happened, all the welds opened up as the gearbox split the tunnel apart.
Pedal box was up in the dash and drivers seat Z shaped.
I walked away without a scratch, well only a graze on my ankle
