Default Rocker cover polishing

So I had a day off work, and the sun was shining. I decided not to go or a drive though, instead I took my rocker cover off and sanded it down to re paint.

Anyway after stripping the paint and a little sanding I realised that I had the right equipment and tools to just carry on sanding and get the polished look, and after seeing Esem's pics of his rocker cover (which I love), that's what I did! I need to take it off again to just go over a few small details which are still visible when fitted, but I'm happy with the outcome. In fact, I'm loving it! What do people think?!

Paint stripper
120 grit
320 grit
500 grit
1000 grit
1500 grit
3000 trizac disc
3M fast cut compound
Brasso!

Total time 3hours (including remove/refit)! Job done!

Please excuse the iPhone photos...

Looks good, would have loved to do this but worried about afterwards - IMO it would need some sort of sealer/protectant on it.

I can still see remnants of the red with the cover installed though.

Yeah, like I said above I need to take it back off to do some more little bits. Had thought about lacquer, but not sure if it would stick?!

Get yourself a polishing kit and you can get a mirror finish on it ...

(PITA to keep it like that)

Mine does actually look more or less like that already, which is good, but it's the little in between areas around the bolts I'm having trouble with. How did you do those bits? Just elbow grease and will power?

That looks nice!

Have you got a dremel?

No, just used my sealey variable speed polishing mop. I put sanding discs in place of the polishing sponge pads.

However, a dremel would be useful for the small gaps and recesses that are left unfinished.
