Default Road Angel 1 / 2

I'm thinking of buying a RoadAngel but have no idea as to the difference detween the 1 & 2 models.

Do they both detect Laser and Radar?
Do you have to pay a monthly fee for updates & is this worth it?
What about those mobile barstewards, does it detect them?
At around 400 quid, are they worth upgrading from my Snooper 715?
and whats the SNOOPER S6 like?

Any info would be appreciated.

The original RA works by comparing your position via GPS against a database of known camera locations and then warning you when you get near one.

Later ones also came with a "Laser Alert" module for detecting handheld laser guns. Mine didn't have one so I can't comment on their efficacy. The original certainly didn't have a radar module, but I can't comment on the RA2 as I've never used one.

I ditched my RA in favour of an Origin B2 after concerns about how frequently Blackspot were updating their database - or not updating it, to be more precise. I don't know whether they've addressed that issue now and do so more regularly.

No monthly fee for updates - you pay an annual subscription. You certainly used to be able to purchase a lifetime subscription for a bit more than the cost of two years subs.

It's not so much an upgrade from your Snooper as a complement to it.

The RA2 seems to add inbuilt laser detection, funkier appearance, and voice alerts instead of beeps if you choose. Also auto-mute at low-speed, school alerts and auto-loc (i.e. gives you your longitude/latitude in case you break down).

I am toying with upgrading mine as it's 200 quid to upgrade, the new one looks nice, and mine is playing up and out of warranty !

As Dreamer said, New Road angel is just a tarted up version basically that does laser detection as well. It incorporates the satellite receiver and laser detector into the unit itself so is very tidy. Only 1 wire comes out of the unit and that is for power to your 12v power outlet. Most places are selling them for about

I certainly would not recommend RA1. I have one and it is getting worse and worse at locking onto the satellites. I did a 15 mile journey on Friday and it did not lock on. Much of the time it takes a good few miles to lock on and regularly loses contact. I rather stupidly paid
