Rim sizes and offset for 18s
Hi guys
I know you've probably covered all this before but I'm new to this game so please bear with me.
I would like to change the wheels on my nice shiny S but as I understand there aren't a great amount of wheels to choose from. I have found some wheels that I like but the smallest that they are made in is 18s. So I am asking what sizes that I need to buy the rims in, can I have 18x8 on the front and 18x9 on the back or must they be smaller (narrower) than that, the wheels that I like don't go down to 18x7.5 so if that is the size that they should be on the front I shall have to choose some others
Otherwise I will have to go with Volks like everyone else

I like the OZ Superleggera IIIs split rim type things with studs round the outside. What kind of offset am I looking at for 18x8s and 18x9s then, I don't understand what all that is about you see.
Thanks!
Thanks!

This expalins it http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/tech/offset.htm
In essence the offset of the wheel is how far it sticks out or is recessed in when you look down the side of your car.
If you get the wrong offset it will upset the handling of the car and may fail the MOT.
Tirerack recommend 8*18 and 9.5*18 for Super III's on the S, but they don't quote the offset.

Website seems ok to me
Every set of wheels is going to have a different offset.
You have two options in this instance.
1. You could contact Oz or Tirerack and ask them directly what the offset should be. Jim @ Tirerack is very helpful. You might want to consider getting the wheels from them, even with shipping and tax it often works out a lot cheaper than buying from any UK based seller
2. If there is a wheel specialist that you trust ask them. Warning there are a lot of people out there who don't understand the S and will sell you any wheel they think fits, and more than likely it won't.

Hi Ryn...
And TazR, if your watching.
My Volks came from http://www.mvpmotorsports.com/merchant/index.shtml although I didn't purchase them from there myself. I got them of another member who changed his mind. (long story short)

This is the blurb from the site re the 18" volk TE27s
[QUOTE]This includes the 18x7.5" for the front (+48 offset) & 18x8.5" for the rear (+50 offset) in S2000 fitment.

Well I don't have my heart set on those particular wheels but they are pretty fancy. If having them means that they are too wide and a nightmare to fit and keep in rubber then I'm just as happy to find something else that is more friendly. Being the way that the car is, and seeing as I am a new owner and new to rear wheel drive cars, I don't want to upset the balance of it while I am still learning
So might look for something more friendly, like the Volks
Thanks guys!
