Default Revving it....

Just been reading the 'ask Sutcliffe' article in the latest Autocar. He states that the S2000 revs to 9200 and is the highest revving (non-motorbike sourced engine) car. I thought the S revved to redline at 9000? or is 9200 when the limiter kicks in? If he's talking about limiters, not redline, then there are a few cars that rev beyond 9200 before the limiter kicks in (for example, my old Cappuccino would rev to about 10500 whilst redline was at 8500). To take it to the extreme, a car without a limiter will rev till it blows...

I know this guy has spouted some dubious stuff before (to put it nicely), but is he right?

I honestly couldnt give a wrinkled sh1t about anything he has to say on any vehicle 4 wheeled or otherwise.

No disrespect to yourself intended Eric.

I had a Cappuccino for 8 years before moving on the the S2000....... I received some early stick on S2ki for daring to say that the Cappuccino actually revved higher, and also had better steering and gear shift!

What do you think?....... even though the S2000 shift is one of the best the Cappuccino was hard to beat!

Yep, Cappuccino revs higher (although redline is 8500), upgrade the ECU to the N2 sports and it'll rev to nearly 12000 not bad for a purpose built car engine (not taken from a motorbike, as some think).

Steering - the wheel is awful c.f. the S2000, but much more precise and feelback is excellent (no PAS). Gear shift is perhaps slicker as well, although there have been widespread problems with 2nd gear synchro. Handling is superb, although, like the Elise, suffers from lack of grip at times, being so lightweight. For a car with only a 657cc engine, it certainly was hard to beat...

Driving in snow was also fun!........ I was scared to death the first time I drove the S in snow after reading how tricky it was but it was easy compared to the Cappuccino....... on snow the Cap was difficult to drive in a straight line!

I found reversing in the snow safer - you ended up going backwards half the time anyway
