A far better idea would be some form of refresher testing/training to improve drivers thinking about driving, updating them to any changes in highway code or new laws. Another "it depends how it's implemented" thing.

For me I'd say maybe refresher taining 1 year after qualifying, 5 years 10 years, 20 years or something like that. They can't take your license off you but you would be obliged to take x-number of tailored leasons based on x-number of minors before a resit. Maybe a major/dangerous fail suspends your license till you've done the leasons

A bit like having an MOT for your driving skills

with the ninjaboy - I can't believe that once you get your license at 17, you can hold on to it unchecked until what - 70?

A survey published today by the insurer Direct Line found that three in four motorists thought the 60mph speed limit on rural roads was too high. More than a quarter admitted breaking the limit, mostly because they thought there was less traffic and fewer pedstrians on rural roads

So some of the people who think the limit should be reduced admitted to breaking the current 60 limit? WTF is that all about?

Good to see Brake still spouting it's nonsense Still it could solve all unemployment in the Uk if we bought back a person with a red flag to walk in front of each car. Just think of the effect on modern commerce. Nothing fresh would ever arrive in any shop anywhere anymore and you'd need to set out for work before you had got home the previous day! These people are utter twats who should be put on a space shuttle and launched out of the galaxy! They can find a nice little planet all of their own somewhere as they don't seem to live in the world as most of us know it.

Sorry - bit of a rant there.

I thought the speed limit on rural roads was 40mph?!! ;-)

You would think it was when you try to get anywhere with all those *****ing stupid idiots who do sit at 40 for no reason thus forcing normal folk to become raving loonies to overtake them!

I know lets all buy caravans or Kia Piccantos..........***** sake I could get 47mph out of my push bike when I used to race!!!

Rant over

Edd

Mine gets validated for medical reasons every 3 years as I'm a diabetic. The DVLA contacts my Dr.s and scan my medical records (alegedly) but there is no standards of driving testing.

That's another good point. It'd pick up medical conditions (deteriorating eye-sight for example) that may not be picked up on otherwise
