Reverse Gear

Reverse Gear
Car was working absolutely fine this morning - I reverse parked at lunchtime, then when I first went to 5th after leaving lunch, the lever went right to the right-hand-side of the gate.
I drove home and had to use some care shifting into 5th and 6th.
All gears, including reverse, are working. It seems I just no longer have to push the lever down to get into the position for 5th.
Three questions really:
Does anyone have a diagram of the shifter mechanism so I can see if there's anything obvious that has come loose?
Has anyone come across this before?
..and hence does anyone have a specific fix?
Thanks
Keith

Ha you know exactly what I mean, Nick
I shall take a look when I get back later this week.
I think I'm confused because I can't visualise the mechanism, and don't get how it's going into reverse fine without needing to be pushed down. I'm sure it's quite clear really!

My spare box thats in the garage is stuck down on the gearstick, I can't get it into 6th unless i pull the stick up out of the box.
Sounds like your stick is stuck ? Easy enough to get out and have a look
