Rev limiter cutting in early ???
As Carrie was pulling away today into 2nd gear, she revved up to about 5.5k (about 30-35 mph) and the car just stopped accelerating as if the V-tech had just cut out. She changed into 3rd and it was fine but got an oil smell through the heater about a min later. After that was fine.
Has anyone had any problems like this, or know what it could be?

Hi New S2k Owner
Had same problem the other day and asked dealer what the problem was - I was tld that as I had just started the engine and pulled away the limiter kicks in until engine warmed up as RichUK says.

The engine won't let you VTEC until you're showing at least two bars on the temp gauge. It might actually stop you doing it before you get three - but even if it doesn't, as a matter of good practice, you shouldn't.
Brian Marshall's rule of thumb was IIRC to put 4-5 miles on the clock, to give the oil and tyres time to warm up, before trying to rev above 6,000 rpm. Chances are, you'll have three bars up before you've travelled that far but you should still try to resist temptation. It's all to do with having a bit of mechanical sympathy, Brian said

sorry edited cos I wasnt sure If I was correct, but all I said was the temp is measuring water effectively no the oil, so giving the thing more time to wark up is better.

3 Bars is not the engine temperature!!!! A car takes a lot longer than that to warm up. You should stick to the 5 mile rule. I always use the 10 minute rule, IMO its more realistic.
Before then I try to use only 75% power and up to 6k rpm.

No, you're right, Andy - the temp bar is measuring water not oil. Hence Brian's rule of thumb of 4-5 miles to give it time to warm up before letting loose with your right foot.
