updating this thread from comments here:
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.ph...&f=22&t=702239

it seems that 'EP80', which is what crown honda in bushey have used in my car, is an SAE80 gear oil, which ultimately is too thin for the differential.. any views from uk users?

i'm concerned now that i may have to prove evidence to this effect further down the line if this is to be the case...
oh joy

If there is any damage to the crown wheel and pinion gear surfaces the test I have suggested above will show it up. IMO I don't think an "EP 80 oil" will have caused any damage in itself. It may be a bit thinner than is really required but it's "non-EP" oils that will cause gear surface damage.

I've found Amsoil Gearbox oil to be better than a couple of others I've tried. By better, I mean it make the shifting slicker, less notchy into 2nd when cold etc.

honda have stated they used 'Honda EP80' for the diff oil change at the 27k service.
i have aired my concern with the noise, problem getting when hot and suggested the diff oil threads of simlar problems, jorge has agreed for my peace of mind and to see if problem persists to change oil out for one of my choosing..
so anyone know about this 'honda EP80'....??
If you havent had it changed already, i would echo would was previously said about taking a sample of the oil in there currently as a reference before they change it out...

cheers chaps..
i'm going to take a sample of the oil before changing it out..
slightly less worried about totally the wrong oil being used but just perhaps one not up to the job.. which is still not great in any respect.
the noise is only apparent when pulling away under load and gets worse when hot.. so not out of the blue, going to get some decent oil in there and hope that i don't have a bigger problem

Just changed mine the other day, the stuff that came out initialy was a bit on the black n sludgy side, before running a bit clearer, so I think it needed doing. Not too much metal on the drain plug, which is nice. But maybe your EP80 has turned to sludge?

I used 'Motul 90 PA Lubricant limited slip differential (LSD) Extreme pressure', as that's what came up recommended for the s2k on opie oils. The stuff is thicker than Jade Goody, so gravity feeding through a tube doesn't really work, you'll need a squeezy pump thing.

The other thing that you need to bear in mind is the formulation of the oil. For example, old land rover gearboxes need to be run on GL4 rather than GL5 as the latter will attack the ferro-bronze bushes like it's going out of fashion. Probably not an issue on modern gearboxes...?

But other than that, +1 for SAE80 vs SAE90 will make little difference other than noise!

would these be the quantities i need, i.e. as pic..

5 litres of engine oil + 1 litre for top ups (5w40 depending on choice...)
2 bottles of diff oil? (75w90 or 75w110 i may consider)
4 bottles of transmission oil? (whats the weight of this)

cheers... i'm sure you're all bored of this by now!
will update WHEN i get some feedback from the dealer ref the diff oil scenario, i.e. EP80 used and if i have any problems relating with the diff....

5 litres of engine oil + 1 litre for top ups (5w40 depending on choice...) - 6 liters to be ok

2 bottles of diff oil? (75w90 or 75w110 i may consider)
4 bottles of transmission oil? (whats the weight of this) 2 bottles should be enough if they are 1 liter bottle
