Default Repost from General Tyre thread

Hello

I posted this in the general tyre thread before seeing there was a UK section, so repost. I have had a few answers on the general thread from our US bretheren suggesting SO-3s.

As it my wifes car she now wants to know which driving course she should do ?

Thanks

S

Hi all

First post after a while lurking so apologies if I tread on any conventions.

My wife owns an 03 S2000, commutes in it in London UK. I drive occaisionally, usually i use another honda which is much faster and has 2 wheels.

I have had two major aquaplaning moments, one of which ended in a tree and the other fortunately merely closed a major motorway but did not cause any damage.

So far we have been using the OEM Potenza SO-2.

From reading through this forum these seem to be generally considered less than optimum in the wet. We love the car and in the dry it is awesome. But in the wet it is a handful. We thought we were used to it and capable of driving it appropriately. Note I am NOT blaming the car......it is what it is.

From the forum as far as I can gather the Toyo Proxes T1-R seems to be the wet weather/all round street tyre of choice.

Is this correct ? If not what would be better for year round use in a wet country ?

Thanks

S

Always use SO-3's myself and no complaints, seem to be OK in all weather!

I use 245/45 x 16 on the rear.

Thanks for the responses........I did see the FAQ.........after I posted so sorry all.

This post is stirred by a very scary moment on the A1 up near sheffield last thursday.

70 mph straight line cruising, heavy rain, then sudden massive downpour and zero vis despite storm speed wipers so my frind driving (never going to let a friend drive again) lifted off slowly to about 65mph, no brakes....and round we went 540 degree spin straight down the road, amazingly not hitting anything just coming to a rest across both lanes of the A1M.....amazingly the cars behind were sufficiently awake to stop and not hit us.

So it Eagles then or SO3's

Any advice on UK driving courses then, the missus is keen !
