Default Removing exhaust

Hi all,

have found someone locally who can do the exhaust mod for me, he has asked if I can bring just the exhaust in rather than have him remove and fit...

Can anyone give me a step by step for removing the exhaust please, and also what size spammers will be needed? I assume it's just a case of jacking it up, axle stands, remove from hangers, and finally remove 2 nuts and bolts from mid section joint, and that should be it?

Is it as simple as that or am I missing something?

Thanks
Stu

I think you'll need much PlusGas and swearing I imagine - also the transporting of the rear section might pose problems as it's one piece

Your about right, but you will also have to remove the rear subframe brace to lower the exhaust. I think that's held on with four 14mm head bolts and two 10mm.

The centre join of the exhaust has three bolts that I think are 14mm heads too.

jack car up (front to start)
place on jack stands
slide under
detach the 3 bolts that hold the exhaust to the cat (might be rusted on - in this case just remove the two bolts holding the cat to the header)
detach o2 sensor from cat if you are removing all in one.
remove exhaust hanger from centre of car.
jack up back (lower front) again use axle stands
Remove sway bar (4 bolts)
Again remove all exhaust hangers
Thats about it.

Have plenty of plusgas / wd40 and also make sure you hve a giant arsenal of swear words.

Its easy and wont take more than 2 hours, if all goes smoothly.

Thanks Mike, I'm looking on it as an opportunity to expand my arsenal of swear words, I imagine new things will be popping into my head with ever turn or the spanner!

I have just put my OEM exhaust back on. Assuming the cat comes off easily, it is fairly straight forward.

I found removing the rear hangers that are nearest to the front of the car (bit irish) first to be a great help. What you need to do is push the whole exhaust system up to remove the slack then they just slide off, if WD40'd up. Remove them from the car end, and leave them on the exhaust hanger. The rear exhaust hangers (trianglular shape with 3 holes) remove these from the single straight hanger on the car too.

Ended up with 2 cut knuckles and a chunk out of my head from walking into the rear chassis brace!
