Default Recommended Oil?

Hi,

I have tried to find any threads regarding engine oil but suspect didn't search in the right area.

Anyhow, what oil are people using for their cars? I have a 03 and suspect it has high oil use that people have mentioned but want to know what oil I should use.

The previous owner was using castrol edge 0-40w but I have heard others mention mobil 1 and others too.

All advice welcome as it's my first s2000 and have topped up oil in a month already.

Certainly does!

Try searching for Castrol Edge rather than oil, will probably bring back most of the oil threads that way.

I'd go with 5W40, but 10W40 is fine equally. I'd also recommend getting it from Eurocarparts when they have their discount codes on as it's usually the cheapest place to get it.

Thanks all.

To be honest i wasn't sure if much difference between the brands and just wanted to try and stick to what has worked for people but looks like it will be more of a preference then best for car as much for much.

However, I am sure I will be shot down for saying that and all the experts out there will correct me happily it will be good education if nothing else..... I have looked around and should be able to get castrol for £30 for 4litres whereas mobile 1 seems to be more expensive but not sure of benefits.

I wouldn't get to hung up on which is best, just go with a good quality synthetic that meets the spec of the manufacturer. There are a few to chose from.

Another vote for Castrol edge here by the way, I bought the 5W40 FST from one of the forum sponsors (opie), discount available for club members, can't go wrong in my opinion

As a point of interest, my oil consumption (on an MY02 at 82,000 miles) reduced from c1,200 miles per litre to c1,600 miles per litre, when I changed to Castrol Edge. Previously I had been using other brands of 5W-40 FS.

Hi,

Thank you for the advice.

Any idea on cost/discounts? Able to get 4L castrol for £30 and doubt it would be any cheaper and I can get locally so would just do that.

With regards to usage 1200m per litre doesn't sound bad to me but I don't know. I am sure I have heard/read somewhere some horrow stories of 300-500 mile top up required but presume a lot depends on how addicted you are to the vtec range but like I said no expert and have only just got the car.
