Default Rear tyres.

Can anyone explain to me why if you dont fit S02's, or F1's to the rear then you should have 245's on?

I've read the FAQ's, but would like to know why.

Should you also increase the width on the front with a different tyre?

I believe it's because the SO2's are wider than a 'standard' 225 and have a very stiff sidewall, so if changing to a different brand you need a wider tyre to compensate for the reduced width.

Thumbs up

I've also read the FAQ's and have gone to get quotes for tyres I ask for a price on the Bridgestone's and say they must be EJS02 and get the response - not listed but we have so2p.

Then I try F1's in the 245/45 rear and they say problems with getting hold of them.

Try for a set of P7's and can't get the fronts in them.

All coming in at around

People have had good experiences with http://www.eventmobiletyres.com/ and they come to you to fit them.

Lots of places will tell you that you can't get the S02 anymore, some will try to sell you S02 Pole Positions that they have left in stock. They all wrong.

You can still buy the S02 new, but it is only the Honda specific variant, the generic S02s cannot be bought anymore.

F1s in 245 are also no longer available new.

See above about widths.
Eventmobile are very good. They will fit at your home, place of work, wherever and they know which are the correct tyres for the S and won't screw up your alloys. big

I personally don't buy it that changing brands means you need to change sizes.

If S02s really are so much wider, why don't people recommend going up at the front too? Surely a 215 section "normal" tyre would match the OEM S02s 205 width? If you need to go up 20mm at the back surely going up 10mm at the front makes sense too?

I am running goodyear Eagle F1s all round 205/55 up front, 225/50 at the back as recommended in the handbook. They are easy to find in these sizes and they have been absolutely fine in terms of grip/traction/feel particularly in the wet.

I have a very nice photo showing the non S2000 spec SO2 against an S2000 one, will dig it out later, it speaks for itself really.

See this thread from the US: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=246500

There seems to be two sides to this argument.

I also worry that if you fit tyres that are a different size from the manufacturers recommendation, you run the risk of invalidating your warranty and your insurance. For example, if you had a rear diff or suspension problem and were running "wider" rear tyres than recommended in the hand book, Honda could use this as an excuse not to pay a warranty claim. Similarly, say you have an accident caused by aquaplaning. The insurance company could claim that "wider" rear tyres are more prone to aquaplaning, and therefore contributed to the accident. And since they are not within the spec recommended by the manufacturer they could conceivably throw out the claim. I admit it is unlikely they would even notice, let alone use it as a excuse not to pay, but it could give them an opportunity.

All I was trying to say in my earlier post was that I have read the argument for running 245s at the rear and I personally am unconvinced. I don't mean to suggest that it's rubbish, or that you shouldn't do it. As always with these things it is up to you personally to make a judgment call.
