As for Shipley's comment - when you are listening to your music CD at home on your 5.1 system, do you listen using front speakers (as intended) or do you prefer your amp to run it as a surround output? The answer as to which set up you'll prefer in your car is in the answer to that question.
For the car (as its a soft top) I want clarity of sound, coupled with a deep base when needed, and volume... lots of it. The best way was the current setup..many others were tried.
Not for town or traffic...but if I doing my Sussex lanes top down blasts...I want to hear it....comparison to the lounge at home ?....none. No car would come near that

having done the same as Craig
So correct me if I'm wrong, but the general opinion is to spend money on an amp for my front speakers indstead of buying rear speakers?
If that's the case, then why is this so much better than driving the speakers off the HU? It certainly has enough power to get them so loud my ears are ringing (as I found yesterday listening to Green Day live!!)
Cheers cb

If all you want is 'music' then go for it rears will do the trick.
But if your looking for Car HiFi or at least something that even slightly resembles natural sound play back then Dont.
Personally i hate rear speaker in cars with a passion (and car Audio is something i get passionate about). It goes against the whole point for me, which is 'recreating a sound stage'. You dont go to a gig and stand with your back to the stage now do you...?
Spend your money on good quality set of Front Comps and an Amp.

I've tried - bass shakers in the seats, S pods and Lucid panels.
I ended up making my own. But I have them pegged a fair way back so they only really come in to play at high speed roof down. Plus they help with wind at high speed.
