I've not looked at mine closely, but if the plastic is willing to lie flat with some human hand intervention, then what would happen if you copydex'd a couple of stiff-ish vertical pieces of plastic to the inside of the roof, such that the plastic screen wouldn't be able to fold in the middle very easily, but enough flexibility in the plastic ribs to still allow the mechanism to work.
