Default Rear diff

Hi all,

Does anyone know if all the diff's are the same or were there any changes during the years?

Cheers

Matt

Ap2 was ment to be stronger ie the caps holding the lsd but also the ap2s had a clutch delay valve as well which helped shock.

Strong enough for 400hp or would it still need billet caps to reinforce it?

350whp the stock one is good to 500whp ish if you drop the clutch with 255 r888s at 6000 then your half shafts go bang first lol.

I'm going to be changing the prop shaft and drive shafts so the weak points will be the diff and gearbox.

Mine managed 400 hp without any problems.I did put a X-Gear 3.9-1 in it.You can get straps that strengthen the weak part (which is the casing)Razz's car seems to have taken some abuse over the years and I dont think he had many problems with his Diff. With big power just take your time from standstill, thats where you will break it.

From '04 we got most or all of the upgrades that the AP2 had except of course for the 2.2L lump, the diff was upgraded and I suspect the clutch delay valve isn't of much use with the 2.0L lump. Thre reason for all this would be that it's cheeper and easier for honda to drop just a 2.2L engine and ECU in for the USA market rather than having loads of different bits on the assembly line to get mixed up, it wouldn't be coat effective to swap about and I guess at the time they just passed on the costs to the customer.
