Default Are RE050 MZ tyres still being made

I recently enquired to Bridgestone on this lingering question of whether they still make/distribute the S2000 specific OEM fitment RE050 MZ tyre.

Here's the reply from Bridgestone UK.

They recommended the Alfa Romeo RE050's on the front when Elite rang them for me.

I'm sure Bridgestone would recommend any Bridgestone tyre.

Anyone think they would suggest Michelin, Goodyear etc?

Why would they Pode??? They probably wouldn't even know because they are suggesting a direct replacement for their own tyre.

I'm just about to get get new boots all round. I checked the Bridgestone web site for their choice of tyres and it suggested RE050A for front and rear.

I'm getting tempted to try other tyres. I know I can get MZs at the moment but any fronts I find will probably now be old stock. The set that I fit all round now will probably need the rears replacing in 10-12 months, whatever I get I want to be able to replace the rears at that time and get the full life out of my fronts.

A few other daft tyre things I've spotted while searching. Kwikfit think an S2000 uses 225/50V16

A number of posts I've read on here recomending tyres which are not available in the right sizes for the S2000. for example the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta is only available in the exact size for the rear. They have the standard Ultrac in a fitment for the front and rear. I guess the people that recomended these were either using non oem wheels, fitting non standard sizes or mixing between front and rear.

Suggest you to order 2 sets of rears and 1 set of fronts if you can find 6 MZ's just get them. I dont think there is anything avaliable that is better for the S on sale in the UK. There was a rumour that the Toyo R1R would be coming and is fitted as standard to the Evo X FQ400, that would be the best option if they do come out. If you have space and the cash just order two sets of rears, you wouldnt loose money even if you sell them on unused at a later date.

I noticed the rears I ordered were BZ - what are these from a Merc?
Anyone used them on S2000 before?

Steve
