Default rattling clutch - would really appreciate your help!!

I bought my s2k last year from a main dealer and know that the clutch plate modification had been done to stop the 3rd gear rattling noise. However recently it has started again (although slightly different to the usual problem in that the rattling starts between 4.5k down to 4k revs in 3rd gear and when I VTEC hard).

Having taken it back to the dealer they are loathed to do the same clutch replacement again because they think that the problem will probably return, they are going to speak to Honda Technical to get some advice as to what they should do.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem? and what was done to sort it out?

Also can you tell me how loud the rattling sound is? mine isn't that bad (especially given the sound of the engine ) but now I have heard it I just can't ignore it

.....I am worried that I am fussing over nothing and need some reassurance from you guys!!

Many thanks

Dom

Dom

I spoke with my dealer about this and they said they all rattle to some extent and they'd look at it when I brought it in for service

However with my HKS Hyper fitted I can't hear it soo without wanting to sounds flippant and I know this only masks it but why not get a HKS Hyper, they are awesome and really improve the car no end

Zero, its probably been covered before but do you have to declare the HKS to your insurance company and does it up the premium at all ?

I declared it to Churchill, they said that there would be no increase in premium and I got them to send me confirmation in writing which is now sitting with my insurance policy

It's the best thing I've bought so far

Ditto for Tesco, Dan. All they were interested in was whether it gave a performance boost. I said it didn't, they recorded the mod on the policy and I didn't have to pay a penny.

Excellent - I thought it did enhance performance, though - isn't that a lot of money for a different sound ?

(Not that there's anything wrong with it - virtually any money spent on my baby is well spent !!)

There were several attempts by Honda to fix the clutch vibration issue. It may be that yours was replaced with one of the intermediate fixes. I believe it's the 055 version that's the good one. I'd find out how long ago the clutch was replaced. However, your symptoms don't sound quite right to me.

The vibration sounds like a rattly exhaust, and only happens when you're decelerating from 4-3k RPM, in any gear. I've had the 055 clutch in for a couple of years and 10k+ miles, and all seems well.

As for a dealer declining warranty work, sounds like they're a little short on trained staff to me.

the sound of the HKS really adds to the enjoyment of the car, it really flatters the sound of the engine and sounds exactly how I think a sportscar should

the best thing is because the car is so rare people don't think ahh ricer boy drilled his back box, they just think what the hell is that car

Zero, what has the dealer said re the warranty. Im thinking if say valves developed holes in them would they say it was due to hyper and void the warranty.
