Default Raspberry PI Sat-Nav

So crazy idea, i was thinking about modding a radio door to include a touch screen for a raspberry PI. Similar to this concept:

Does anyone have any experience with Raspberry Pi's? My only issue so far, is the monitor cables are either quite thick (HDMI) or short wide ribbons...

That's pretty cool, pi will be remote mounted touch screen. That's just the touch screen, I have pi3. Your going to be taking your eye of the road an awful with it mounted there!

Oh yeah just the screen would go in there, but even then - its getting the ribbons from the screen to the main board?

And yeah - sat nav or music only!

I think a PI might be a bit of a fiddle - what about stripping a 4" phone ?

Thats a good idea, like an older Samsung Galaxy or something... can they be programmed to just turn on automatically with the ignition though?

You probably stand a good chance of getting a modded android OS (something like cyanogenmod) or there are apps that are designed to be run in a car http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/5-best-...roid-compared/

I think there's a way of having a custom boot screen - Honda logo etc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvSFYSL3xDI (shame about the Galaxy Note on its side - but I reckon you'd be able to hack that with the right modded OS too)

You also stand a better chance of getting GPS with Android than Linux (Raspberry PI)

The Torque Pro would also be able to connect to your ODBII connection if you wanted it to display some extra gauges, g-force etc.

Where do you have it mounted? Assume with the JDM Sat nav surround?

Samsung S2 are good phones, 16gb, prob get one for £30
I remember someone putting something in a LHD passenger sun visor (for UK drivers side), could use the camera as a dash cam too.

Bluetooth OBD2 and Caro pro app will start on engine running or GPS movement
