Ah ok, iv put the tubing on the hooks themselves and it pulls far tighter and reduces wind noise massively.

You could buy new strikers (is that what they are called??) the metal bits that the hooks hook into - you'd be suprised how much they wear down.

Sounds like your roof strikers are worn.... There was a TSB for MY00-01 to replace the strikers with hardtop strikers.....

I fitted a hardtop last week and the day the fixing kit was put on the car - the strikers were also replaced. Coming home with the soft top up, the car was noticeably quieter.

I nearly didn't bother giving the strikers to the garage as mine looked fine.

Thanks for TSB, I have hard top strikers though! Will check for wear and get some type of rubber tubing to pull the parts closer
they are the strikers i sold you. they were ok for wear.

i had the same problem with the strikers on my car. i sorted it by making up thin metal shims about 3mm thick 9mm wide and 14mm long. i stuck them in the striker gap with double sided sticky tape where the hook would come into contact with them. this provided enough tension to stop the roof rattling. i tried the rubber hose fix but this only lasted about 2 days before the hook pierced through it becoming lose again. no rattles 8 weeks after mod.
