Question about importing
Right, this is a tricky one so bare with me.
My parents moved to France last year, they took 2 cars over, changed one to a french plate but never used the other so bought it back and gave it to me.
Its still got UK plates on, still insured in this country and I've just put it through MOT here.
My mum did inform the DVLA she was going to export it but apart from driving it to France and back nothing else has been done, so on paper, its still a UK car surely?
We're going through all the documents to import a vehicle but its a ballache, and they are off home tomorrow and don't have time to be going to the DVLA office with passports and licences and stuff.
Can I just fill in the V5 as me as the new owner and continue as if the car never left the country? I am thinking of sticking a covering note in explaining they never exported it in the end and I am now the new owner.
Cant seem to get the info from the DVLA site and my mum phoned up but the dim bint didn't seem to get her head around the fact they had changed their mind and never exported it.

Better to give a quick call to them on the vehicle enquires number.. you don't want to drive the car, possibly get in an accident and find out that insurance is void as it shouldn't be on the road.

We've tried that twice now, both myself and my Mum has, both times the person couldnt seem to understand it was going to be exported then wasn't and just kept rambling on about sending a V55 and that we would need the registration docs from France, which don't exist, because it was never imported
I have just filled in the V5 and got my mum to sign it, going to stick a note in and hopefully it will go through. If any one else can shed any light please do.

If it was never exported, and is still registered at their UK address then I see no problem with just registering you as the new keeper.
Surely sending the new owner registration will flag up any problem - in the very unlikely event that there is one??

I'm just going ahead as it would be transferring any other car into my name. Will see what happens.
