I found out why my premium with Tesco had altered The first quote I'd selected protected NCD, the second quote, I forgot - and that's the one I bought.

So, do I contact Tesco and tell 'em I made a mistake, or do I not bother (difference is

Pete I think your lucky if you can get the "protected bonus" its not even on offer with my insurance company.
Have you checked what % you lose if you make a claim? eg 10, 20, 30% or maybe all!?
If they wipe the entire lot out when you make a claim then its definitely worth it.

Personally, I'd keep it protected. It cost me a bit more, too but buys some peace of mind.
With the S2000 there's a lot more chance of making a claim than most cars.

I wonder about this NCD thing all the while. I have umpteen years NCD (Grabbing the wooden desk.....NOW) I've opted for the fully protected bonus for many years now, and never had to claim. As far as I'm aware, all I would lose in the event of a claim is my excess.

I think I pay about

I don't feel it's worth it. I have full NCD and I can make two claims in 5 years before I loose any discount. I did make one claim 4 years ago when my RS got stolen. All I've to do is go one more year and then I'm ok.

That could be a saving of

Isn't that exactly what protected no claims is, Dave - Maybe you have it and don't know it?

My insurance is due for renewal in 6 weeks so I thought I would get a few quotes before the renewal arrives in the post and having read this thread I thought I would try Tesco on line.

With no protected NCD it was

I don't think protected NCB is worth it, mainly because the NCB is only half the story. If you have a ding, but keep your NCB 'cos it's protected, your premium is still going to be loaded due to the fact that you've made a claim in the 'n' last years.

A cynic - I fear you are right

Things change - on my last ding 9-10 years ago - with no protection - all they did was remove 5% NCB
