PRM install with pics
After the recent GB of PRMs it's probably no surprise that there are lots of threads called "PRM install pics", or variations thereof. Well, as I've paid my dues to S2ki.com I can post what I want - so there!
So... get home from work and start buffing my horn(!) - pictures in this thread here ---> Pics of Ted's shiny horn .
Then, start ripping bits out of engine bay, mostly, but not exclusively, to do with the stock intake. Holy crap does that mother of a stock intake system weigh a lot! I'm expecting massive understeer next time I go out as the front axle is now half a ton lighter.
Surprisingly, the install goes pretty smoothly and I'm done in about 30 mins, although in the last picture it's already dark as a neighbour from down the road dropped by just as I'm about to hook up the hose into the injection rail and we got chatting about engineering for about an hour.
So. First impressions?
Bloody loud from 6000rpm onwards, but it's a more reedy, thin and mechanical sound than before. I'd say the stock intake with lid removed was a lot deeper, the sound almost making the engine sound as a V-6 growl, whereas the new sound is what I would expect a manic four-pot VTEC to sound like. A lot higher pitched.
Pickup at low revs also seems to be back to stock intake with lid on level. Hard to tell with just the quick drive I managed this evening. It'll be put through central London congestion traffic tomorrow so I'll have a better idea on pickup after a long stationary period in traffic.
Pictures? Well here's a link to my picture library ---> PRM install picture library
And here are the important three pics:
Before:
During:
After:
Did I mention that it's bloody loud?
Overall, happy bunny at the moment.

I went out in IanL's at the Surrey Meet and the sound raised the hairs on the back of my neck
First time ever as a passenger in the S and boy does it feel quick

I guess as a passenger your appreciation of how quick the car feels is heightened by the fact you're not in control...

I drove the A2 Sunday afternoon.....yawn yawn....when you've been in cars like the Ferrari and S2000 it feels like it would be quicker to walk.....
I am very very tempted by the PRM........need to allow my wallet to revover...there's always something to tempt me with the S2000...it was supposed to stop with the HKS...then alarm...then stereo...licence disc holder....private reg.....cleaning products...
