K&N doesnt need bumper off - AEM does - its a 20 min job though, quite easy.

Anyone near Cheshire can PM me!

I've had an AEM V2 for six months now.

Absolutely fab The sound from it is awesome especially in V-TEC.

Possibly slightly more power and increased throttle response but nothing like 8-9HP as has been claimed.

I havn't got the hydrolock valve thingy - and wouldnt bother fitting one either unless you regularly drive through 2 foot deep puddles.

The only thing you have to remove to fit it is the front offside wheel and inner arch. I know this cause I fitted it myself. Took about 90 mins all in all.

I'm not going to put down the PRM or the K&N because I havnt experienced them first hand but I did look into both of these but neither is a true CAI as they both take in warm air from the engine bay.

There are a few more on here running the AEM's I'm sure they'll be along shortly to give you there opinion too.

Has anybody got any first hand experience of the Comptech Icebox? It looks to be quite good, having the heatshield around it. It says that it makes a slightly noisier sound. I wouldn't want to buy it and then be dissapointed that the noise level is only slightly louder! I want it to make power and be noisy!!!

I thought the issue was more driving through a large puddle and saturating the filter - that would be far more dangerous.

It getting wet overnight woudn't be great, but it would mostly just drain off rather than taking a gulp.
Obviously driving through water could be an issue, but you'd have to drive through a river, a few small puddles would not be a problem, plus you'd be aware of that problem and would drive accordingly.

The main problem is as I stated earlier with you leaving it over night an it pours down with rain. The filter actually points upwards due to the bend in the bottom section of the pipe as water collects in the u bend of the pipe. This isn't as obvious as driving through water and hence why it catches more people out.

Aswell as mounting an umbrella device you can also block the drainage hole in the bonnet which sits directly above where the filter goes, this gives you added protection against the above problem.

Just checked out a few US threads on the Comptech, it looks like there is a few issues with fitment and rubbing against components in the enigine bay.

Where does the K&N gen 2 kit sit? Behind the bumper or just in the bay itself?

Would it make much differance in noise if I were to put a cold air feed in to to the air box and use an uprated filter in the standard place? I know the OEM airbox has a cold air feed, I'd just put a larger one in using induction hose.

Otherwise, I think I'll go for the K&N Gen 2 kit!

Thanks for all the info and help guys!

It goes back to what you want from the filter Nick.

Noise or power, or both. You can feed the stock airbox with a snorkel, which Spoon etc sell. I doubt it gives much power and wont give more noise. I haven't seen one in the flesh, but it looks like a restirction to me, over the open mouth of the stock one. That said, im sure Spoon wouldnt make one if it sapped power.

The K&N will give a great noise, as will the AEM. The AEm in theory will give a touch more power.

The next step are the Mugen and J's ones - but these need bonnet mods. Ive not heard the Mugen giving any power either.
