Power Outlet - anyone use it?
I'd like to know if anyone has bought a mains-type plug adaptor and plugged it into the power outlet. If so, what kind of things have you run off it? I would like to power-up my laptop on longer journeys and maybe other gadgets, but I'm aware of the low-power output/battery problems I may be facing. Will it run a set of Christmas tree lights, for example?*
Thanks
*That was, most definately, a joke

I have an inverter which I use on a boat (12v electrics) - it plugs into the 12v socket and gives240v, 200 watt max, 150 watt continous.
I use it for powering low power stuff like moble phone chargers
I do not know what power a laptop draws, but I imagine it would be less than 150 watts
My inverter cost about

for the laptop it depends on the transformer - since laptop does not run itself of 240v.
should be about 0.5 to 1amp depending on voltage, so more or less 100watt., there should be a fuse for the socket? check the current on that.

Thanks for the info Euan/Richard
I've got a catalogue from that "Innovations" company which have something along these lines, but I'll take a look at Maplins first.
Don't know about Largs road Euan, but I'm heading for the M6 next Sunday!

If you want to power a laptop, you would be better off with a car/air adapter. This will plug into the laptop power socket and run it straight off 12V. I have one which works well in the S2000.
