It depends on what you're used to. Personally I wouldn't do 80 miles a day in the S2000, nothing to do with the costs, but to do with the comfort, S2000 is tiresome to drive any distance unless on a proper blast where the fun out weighs the downsides. The S2000 is cramped, wind noise, tyre noise, high revs, crap stereo..... There are better cars for the job.. i.e. the Golf.
If you insist on a two seater convertible for the 80 mile commute then look for a better all rounder like the Z4 3.0. I easily got 35mpg out of mine on the motorway at 70mph.

For me, the crux of changing was mainly due to fuel costs spiralling and the unbelievable insurance cost for an old dodderer like me. The quotes I was getting was pretty much reckoning that i'd be smashing the S2000 up.. but on further investigation it was my Beirut (sorry, Wigan) postcode that didn't help !
I'm in the middle of cheaply tuning my Golf for a bit of fun, whilst still getting 50-60mpg on the commute. Boring cars Golfs...

On the one hand I'd say go for another S, as if you really want one, you can justify the extra cost of fuel/insurance/etc as you will always be getting into something (morning & evening) infinitely more interesting than your'e normal eurobox and other motorist's will always look at you with envy.
On the other hand; if your'e commuting on the M25/M11 every day the S might quickly become a chore in stop/start traffic (thats the only reason I can think of for not getting another one).
BTW: I had a itch for the Fiat 500 Abarth so went for a t/drive in one this afternoon. It was fun for 5mins then I quickly realised it wasn't a touch on the S so will be keeping mine for some time. Try a test drive or two in something else, and then see if you still hanker for another S

80/day is 400/week is a base 20k plus private mileage. I put 35k on the vec one year, that knackers cars IMO.
I'd knack a beater if I were you.

I'd not want to be putting 1.5 to 2 tanks a week in that's for sure, never mind the tyre bill.

Ideally you'd have an S2000 as weekend therapy.
I find the Prelude an ideal compromise, but @ 24 MPG you might stuggle.
Don't just buy a soulless misery box - life's too short.

Joking aside there's some truth in that - it's the reason why i refuse to work more than 10 miles from where i live. Life is too short to spend it commuting, no matter what the car is.

Exactly my ethics too. It why I said it. You got to think, if it takes 1.5 hours to get to work, that's 3 hours a day out of your life for work that you're not getting paid for!

Me too... More worryingly, that's 15 hours a week commuting, almost a full day awake each week sitting in a car commuting, yikes!

I live 3.8 miles from work and I'd need to be offered a massive pay increase to consider travelling long distance to work.
I wouldn't want to do 80 miles a day in an S2000, my wage wouldn't cover it.
