Pollen Filer, it was at one time!
Having just got the car a few days ago I am pulling alsorts of things apart.
Its done 80k miles and five owners down the line this is what the pollen (cabin) filter looks like !!
An original genuine filter never touched by its previous owners !

Hmm...
Look at your standard air filter for the engine after 10-20k miles and it's usually in a similar state.
Think of the volume of air coming into the car when the blower is on full chat.
I changed my astra one twice, in the 4 years I owned it and both in similar states to the above. Mind you, might be down to the area you live in.

As soon as a car starts steaming up at the slightest bit of rain I always go for the filter, invariably it requires changing and once done the steaming up situation improves dramatically.
Perhaps we ought to have a competition for the dirtiest pollen filter, there are three candidates on this thread already !

Yep your right, I admit defeat on this one, although I'll probably win the largest stone chip competition if we ever have one.
