Default Phantom Flat Tyre?!?

What do you think to this guys?

On the way home for the last couple of nights and felt the car occasionally behave strangely, it feels fine the majority of the time so though nothing of it and planned to check tyre pressures ASAP...However...

On the way home this eve the funny feeling was back (put this down to my inexperience with passive rear steer and more confidence in the dry) but doing just over 75 on the oxford ring road and suddenly a very noticeable vibration started, got worse with speed and began to shake the car slightly.

Slowing to 35mph, the classic signs of a flat tyre were all there, bit of wobble when provoked, vibration etc... Pull up at home expecting to change a rear tyre, but nothing visibly wrong?!?

Jacked the car up to get a closer look and noticed the near side rear tyre much more worn on the inside (now illegal) and the drop link from the anti roll bar not connected the lower wishbone!

Symptoms are very strange and without finding the roll bar link hanging loose would have put money on susp bush or upright problem or even just a FLAT TYRE!

Does all this add up to just a drop link replacement or something more sinister?

Hi,

Corroded & failed drop links are a common Honda phenomenon.

I'd say the excessive vibration may be either down to severe tyre wear (it's been rolling rather more than designed!) or possibly even a weak rear damper.

I'd replace the tyres & drop link first; see how it goes. Check for damper leaks, etc whilst the wheel's off.

Ok good advice thanks.

Start cheap and go from there... ;0)

Are there any good ''stronger'' or ''upgrade'' ARB links out there to avoid a repeat performance?

Just stick to the OEM
A rear ARB upgrade is known to create more oversteer
Many of the US "racer" disconnect it completely

Don't listen to Mikey;

He does know what he's on about, but he'll have you build your car into a supercharged monster when all you wanted was a linky thingy!

Hmm... not a bad plan...

Give it a few years till that though.

New tyres on order.... and i guess the linky thingy is easy enough to do yourself yes?

Any tips other than a pair of axle stands and some spanners?

Don't use an allen key in the middle of the bolt
Use a mole grip on the shoulder behind the nut
Ideally tighten them with the suspension loaded

Loads of plus gas & a drill or hacksaw...

You'll need an Allen key/Hex socket to hold the spindle whilst you undo the nut and it's always so corroded you'll bugger it. Easier to saw it off.
