Petrol Gamble
OK, I've got to go to work in a couple of hours, so what you might say. Well as I came home last night the 3 remaining bars on my fuel guage disappeared and the light came on, then a bar re-appeared. It is 18 miles to the Shelll garage on the way to work up a dual carriageway, I've driven 274miles on the tank of petrol so far, WILL I MAKE IT TO THE PETROL STATION????????????????????????
How much fuel is in the tank when the light comes on????
Either that or I go to the Esso 1/s mile away.

I wouldn't fret too much, Gazzer - when my fuel light comes on, there are still 10 litres or so left in the tank. It's VERY conservative. (admittedly, that's with an 04 - but my 02 wasn't much different)
But having said that, I still tend to start worrying when it comes on and I have to go more than a few miles to get to the nearest Shell station - logically I know there won't be a problem, but there's always that nagging "what if this time it's actually telling the truth.....".
So, if it was me, I'd stick a few litres of Esso SUL in to make sure you do get to the local Optimax emporium.

You're right, I know it'll be just my luck to run out on the way to work. I would risk it if I was on a dayoff. I'll give a fiver to Esso in the meantime.

Are you similarly vigilant when flying 747s?
Now that is an eye opening story
