Paper clip says: Vehicle Speed Sensor
I found some mention on here of the VSS being split and going to the dash and ECU seperately. On mine the blue/white wire was broken and sent into a speed converter box, which must be for the speedo (which works).
So is there another wire that carries the VSS into the ECU?

Got the car back then?
Does a CEL put you in a reduced performance mode? I have the hit a brick wall at 7000 rpm thing, so is that because I'm in get you home mode, or does it sound like the car still thinks it's cold and is forcing the cold limiter?

Dembo, im not sure on the JDM model as nobody seems to have an ECU diagram for it
What I would say is that if you are getting a fault code, it will be from the ECU and therefore you can trace it back to the convertor. If there is a seperate wire to the dash then I dont think that will be capable of generating a CEL.

That sounds like a P0050 error.
I had it caused by the speedo dropping out intermittently. As yours is a JDM you probably have 1 of 2 problems. Either the converter behind the dash has a dry joint or other such time related problem, or the speedo sender on the gearbox has a problem.

Reset the ECU, went for a drive and everything was lively again. The after a couple of minutes, lost power, like I'd taken my foot off the throttle (same thing happened last night), but with the clutch in I can rev the engine fine.
The fault light came back a minute or so after that - VSS again.
Thing is: the speedo continues to work. If it's the speed converter (which is in the footwell) or the gearbox end that wouldn't happen.
Sounds like a dodgy connection rather than anything terrible. This is all after having the gearbox replaced.

Did you get to the bottom of this issue as i'm having the exact same problem with mine.
I've tried removing the sppedo converter, i've tried swapping the VSS for another one, i've even tried a different Insturment Cluster in the car but every time the ECU light comes back on and it's gives me the code for VSS issue.
Mines an early JDM car, would the ECU codes be different for the OBD-1 and OBD-2 Systems?
