Not sure why coloured calipers are thought of as ricer-ish.
They are coloured on lots of other cars when you buy them.

(although can only think of boxster at this moment in time )

Any chance of seeing how yours came up after the wire brush/anusol? Post some pics for us please.

IIRC Someone did have a brake warranty claim refused because he had painted the callipers

I painted mine last time around and wish I hadn't done it. Let me rephrase that. I should not be allowed near the car with a paint brush. The first two callipers looked awful, well ok not awful but not impressed, while the back two looked better. I still made a hard job worse by my inability to paint properly. Also the weather was cold that day and the paint started to get thick half way through. This time I will get the dealer to paint them for me.

The "two pack caliper paint" from Hellfords is good (it doesn't fade or crack even after a couple of year's hard braking!). I haven't painted the calipers on my S yet but If I do decide to I may go for a silver colour as that will tone in with the wheels and will look more subtle.

If you do paint them I would recommend putting the car up on axle stands and removing all of the wheels at the same time. Then, remove all of the brake pads and swing the calipers up clear of the discs. Rest the calipers on more axle strands (or an old cardboard box if you are short of stands), degrease, mask up the brake hoses (which you can leave connected so you don't have to bleed the brakes), and mask the bleed nipples. Make sure you don't forget to mask the bleed nipples! Then, mix the half the paint and paint all four. Wait half an hour and apply a second coat. Leave the car on stands obvernight for the paint to dry. (Use two good quality 1/2" paint brushes which you don't mind chucking away after use.)

When you reassemble the next day your calipers will look like they left the factory like it (at least they did on my last car)!
