Default Oxygen Sensor Advice Please, Dealer Rip Off?

Hello All, so heres my story

I have an 06 S2000 40500 miles. When it was under warranty, one time I ran very low on fuel, soon after this the CEL came on.

After much hassle, the dealer eventually replaced the oxygen sensor (primary I think) saying the cars were very sensitive to low fuel levels and to be careful. No problems. Resetting didn't work by the way.

A couple of weeks ago, the same thing - petrol station was closed and I ran too low on fuel, only this time no warranty :-(

When I went back to Stratstone Leeds, they once again faffed about, but this time pointed to a service bulletin (HUK 000000001272) and quoted me £399 to change the air fuel ratio sensor 'kit'

When I asked more questions, the manager didnt seem to know his stuff.

The codes that are being thrown are: PO 135 & P2A00

In my mind Im almost certain I need to replace the primary 02 sensor as the two incidents are just too similar - and that worked last time. Ive been quoted £246 by other dealers for this.

Sorry for the long speil - any advice guys? I need to get this sorted as I'm probably looking to sell soon. Thanks

You're being spun some BS by the dealer.

I've not heard of one S2000 losing an O2 sensor through running low on fuel.

O2 sensors can get contaminated, ie along the lines of what happened with the tesco fuel that was contaminated with silicone, but don't get damaged by running low on fuel if the fuel in the tank is ok.

Yep I have a feeling the dealer is chatting rubbish about the price, but with regards to the low fuel - its happened to me twice now, exactly the same circumstances - fuel light came on both times, shortly followed by the CEL light throwing the same codes. I only use V-power too......

Unusual.

Any other symptoms? Bad idle, using a lot more fuel than normal?

Changing O2 sensor took me 60 mins the first time and about 20mins the second time. New one is £19 off the bay or £70ish for a decent one. When my second one went there were no symptoms apart from the the CEL and I thought it was P0132 but it may be an old man's memory failing him.

An O2 sensor giving up because the car ran lean for a few seconds before running out of gas?

Sounds fishy to me...

I have very little technical know how with cars - I would give it a go, but I have heard that Honda have their own connectors that dont fit the lamba sensors out there...

Yep, I seem to be the only one, but Im absolutely sure about the circumstances both times it happened. Maybe I'm the first to discover a new problem.......in my field this would be named after me !......

Doh! I forgot to mention the car failed the MOT on:

Fast Idle test
Emissions

I should have mentioned that earlier

That's your lambda sensor then.

I find it very surprising that it's anything to do with the fuel levels, so it's probably just buggered.

I would check the wiring down there and look for any air leaks around the sensor though...
