My dealer wouldn't let me borrow the car even if I insured it, but did bring it up to my house on a sunny afternoon to let me play on some local well known roads.

He'd done the same with an ITR 6 months before (which Amanda wouldn't let me buy - too bumpy ) and was green when he stepped out of the car. Must have been hoofing it a bit

right-here's the deal. Potential owners-you are not allowed to try to compete against any car or van until you have followed these 7 basic steps. 7 virtues if you like.

1. redlined in first

2. redlined in second

3. redlined in third

4. hit the limiter in first

5. hit the limiter in second

6. hit the limiter in third

7. changed down into first from 20mph

Note. They don't have to be done in any particular order

Don't worry about it - you're always running the risk of something going wrong if you try to "race" other makes.

I'd much rather feel embarassed about getting mullered by a lesser car than than be recovered from a hedge or end up in hospital and/or court.

You'll get the hang of the car gradually - I've had mine for 20 months, and am still learning.

When I went on my first meets, other folk would say things like "I was never out of VTEC the whole way on that last bit" - I thought they were nutters - now I know it's tht best way to drive the car. You can also carry frightening amounts of speed through corners (in the dry), which you learn over time.

Best thing is to enjoy it yourself - who gives a stuff about other cars. ( I once had to pull over on a twistie I knew very well to let a TDi Discovery past - had to do the same for an empty local bus in the highlands too )
