Default One year Down

Reflecting on my first year of S2000 ownership and all I can say is WOO HOO
366 days and 28236 miles down and I still get a buzz every time I drive her

On the other hand looking at what she has cost me over the last year has made me wince just a little bit

I estimate on fuel I have done £5000 to £5500
£803.00 on insurance
£1175 on servicing 54k, 63k, 72k and 81k
£930.00 on little out of the blue problems eg Air conditioning pump died, Fuel pump Problem and a dodgy sensor
£1100 on Tyres
i am sure there are a couple more things i have missed but you get the idea

Total £9468.00 for 1 years running, not sure if thats good or bad for an S but i know its pretty bad for my Wallet

Much as I love the car I may need to get a run around for a daily driver and leave the S for my weekend toy

To be fair, the bulk of your 'running costs' are due to David Cameron helping himself to everything in your wallet when you fill up with fuel!

Servicing can be had for a lot less if you do it yourself, plus the lessons learnt are invaluable. 1100 bones on tyres! Goddamn, I know you've done a few miles this year but you must be very hard on em, or your alignment is all f***ed up!

Maybe they are made of ground up dodos.....

A pair of fronts will do about 14k and rears about 7k

28k miles ....

2 sets of fronts @ 160 a pair = 320

4 pairs of rears @ 180 a pair = 720

That's assuming you're not using expensive stuff! If you include fitting, i reckon that's about right.

I have had my S2000 for 13 months now (2001 MY silverstone)) and have covered 30,200 miles (total mileage now 125,300 miles). I am using it as a company car so do country roads, A roads & motorway but lucky enough to get the majority of the £5,700 spent on petrol back in expenses. My company car would have been a 1.3 diesel Astra had I not taken this option - hard choice I know!!!

I no longer need coffee to wake myself up in the morning before I drive to work but rely purely on vtec and roof down when I can.

£600 on insurance, £700 for new soft-top from carhood warehouse (hrw) and initial service from Honda to see if any major problems. I have then changed the oil & filter (every 7k miles), gearbox & diff oil, spark plugs and valve adjustment.

Purchased a set of spare wheels with original S02's on (great handling) and shod my originals with winter tyres for the bad snow that we never had. Now on Bridgestone RE050A's front & rear with rears being
225/50 x 16 - should they be 245/45 x16's as I want to get the Geo set soon? - For the 1st 700 miles the RE050A's were s**t but now starting to inspire confidence.

TCT changed and sandblasted but now problem reoccurring PITA.

Next on the agenda exhaust mod, S-pods (I have already upgraded the front speakers & head unit)

All in all I love my S, driving it everyday puts a smile on my face to and from work, starts many a conversation, have fun driving with other S 2000 owners and it is well worth the money. Previous cars include a Fiat X19, Quantum kitcar & Astra twintop which in no way compare to the engineering that Honda put into this car.

7k out of the rears? Wow, they must be really soft!

It also very much depends on rear toe settings. More toe = more wear.
