I was brought up on FWD (aside from learning in a Volvo 740, and my first car being a Morris Minor), and I do feel hooked on the RWD experience now. I'd like to keep to it in the future, but plenty FWDs must be as good as or better than the worst modern RWDs.

Interestingly though, whenever I think back about my previous cars' driving experience ('88 Polo, '93 Primera, '99 SAAB 9-5), comparing them to the S, it's not the obvious performance differential that comes to mind first......

instead its the understeer when you push the car too hard around a corner, and the steering wheel grabbing torque steer when you push hard on the way out

I used to have a Corrado VR6. Fantastic motor. Nice bit of lift off oversteer, beautifully controllable, no real torque steer, you really could play with it on the limit and it wouldn't bite. Far better than a LOT of RWD cars. Better handling than the S2000 for sure although probably less grip and traction and none of the power oversteer that only rwd can deliver. I've said the following before and I'll say it again - If the Corrado was RWD I would still have it, probably for ever. The car did just about everything so well, best car I've ever owned.

I have to say I wouldn't mind having a crack at a 4WD Evo, sti or even an R34 GTR .

Strange as it sounds though one of my mates is currently getting his 500hp sti5 RA converted to RWD, he reason was because he can!?!?!.

Is this common practice? Used to own a scooby and often wondered what it would be like with the front drive disconnected. Is it just a case of taking out the transmission bits or does the suspension need work too?

Does the STi5 RA not have the trick diff where you can manually put all the power to the rear anyway?

I LOVE RWD. I can't imagine going back, it's just too much fun as it is challenging. FWD is dull in contrast, understeer, booooooorrrrrrrring.

Try a decent FWD (clio, corrado, 205 etc.) and the LAST thing on your mind is the word 'boring' My Omega is RWD but no was near as fun as the cars mentioned above. IMO a car is either fun or not regardless of which wheels are driven. Given the choice I'll take a fun RWD over anything else though.

I love RWD too, but I also loved the 4WD of the Scooby Sti PPP. It was really lary in the wet out of corners and the backend moved progressively out as you played with the power, I was fully able to understand and feel what was going out with the car, this is unfortunately the downside to the S2000 where it can snap with no warning.

My choice for my next car will either be another S (can't beat it for value) or a Scoob STi (if I can handle the hardtop and chavness).

This will be my second winter with the S this year so I will be keen to see how I feel this year, last year I was still in the honeymoon period and had no self made bad moments!

We are about to trade the Audi S3 on Saturday for a beemer so both cars will be RWD, no 'safe' car for the winter months now!
