Default Oil pan removal

Hi...

Well to say I'm a bit p!ssed off is an understatement, I went to do my first oil and filter change (I've always service my own car, even rebuilt several engines...) all was going swimmingly until I came to put the oil drain plug back in only to notice that the drain plug threads were full of aluminium threads off the oil pan... Yep someone had previously over tighten it or cross thread it.... So much for full Honda and garageR service history. Anyways I'm in the process of removing the oil pan and I'm after any advice/ pointers in removing and reinstalling the oil pan. So far I have taken off the strut brace and removed the two longer bolts that go through the AC to the mount on the oil pan, I understand I can remove the oil pan with the AC mount still attached?

I'm in two minds what to do with the oil pan... Repair it, get it rethreaded ( m15x1.5 i think) or to buy a new oil pan? Also I understand the Honda ultra flange II is the best stuff to use.

Thanks.

That had crossed my mind but I'm not sure about doing it in situ, worried that there might be bits of metal in the oil pan.

If the threads are on the plug it's very unlikely, and you could flush it out with some other oil with the plug out
and when you cut the thread for the helli coil or time-sert apply grease to the tap,,,, it will save a lot of time and effort, unless you were going to baffle your sump while it was off

^ get a baffle plate welded in whilst you're there, it really is pretty easy to drop the pan (I actually did drop the aux belt and air con pump too).

Grab some Hondabond for the refit and job's a goodun.

just take it easy undoing some of the longer sump bolts - mine were a bit fragile after being in-situ for so long - snapped one but got it out once pan off.

Well I've finally got it sorted... In the end I opted for a timesert insert and now have a solid carbon steel insert which should be better than the original threads.

Thanks for everyone's advice.
