Default Oil, Oil, Oil

Now its considered that Castrol edge was one of the best oils to use in the S, however it appears folk are now moving away from Castrol and to other brands thus seeing lower consumption 'overall'.

What are your experiences with other brands and have you noticed a difference?

I have some Petronas here which I'm going to try. In the past Mobil1, Shell Helix and MOTUL (think it was 300 but was fully synthetic) were terrible in my car.

Cheers

Oil consumption wont be brand specific. Rather the type and grade

I used Mobil1 10w30 synthetic and needed 2 quarts between changes and the car ran like crap

Now I am try out castrol - it has lasted much better and the motor runs more like it should but it's still burning...

Mobil 1: I might as well have left the sump plug off and rigged a pump from a 34 Gallon barrel to feed the engine.

Castrol Edge 5W-40: Much improved consumption, but still towards the higher end of Honda's permissible limits.

Motul 8100 X-Cess: In a different league. Having covered ~ 3500 miles with this in the engine, I've only needed to top up ~ 0.5 litres. It remains cleaner for longer as well...this obviously brings it's own benefits. It also complies with ACEA A3/B4 specs...much like Edge.

I've been using castrol edge 5-30 for the past four years and mine hasn't burnt a drop between services. It's an MY05.

Forgive me if I am wrong as I am still very new to the S2K scene/ownership, but I thought we were meant to use 10-30 or 5-40?

Maybe I am missing something though?
