Oil Level
#22
I can emphathise as my gf's Alfa is drinking oil and at a faster rather than yours.
I would agree that it would suggest a terminal situation for the engine unfortunately as it is either leaking or burning. Granted leaking doesn't have to be on to the ground e.g. into the cooling system but you don't indicate any signs to suggest that is the case.
If it is burning, then something inside the engine is the problem.
As for the oil, 0W-30 have a look at the data sheets on the oil 0W-30 and compare to say a 10W-40 and make your judgement as to its suitability. You can dig about the net for the info as to what the various bits mean (I stuck my somewhat basic opnionhere but I would recommend your form your own).
Definitely keep monitoring your oil level, say every tank of fuel and keep your fingers crossed. If it is any consolation maybe the dealer did not fill it to the top but this is grasping at straws.

how much oil does (can) the engine use?
Would 3.5 litre in 500 miles seem a little exessive??

Some diesels burn less oil than that! I'm amazed the service dept didn't think anything was wrong?

I thought all honda dealers were meant to be using Castrol SLX on their performance engines these days. (5w-30 IIRC)
Btw, when should the level be checked in the S2 hot or cold? my civics had to be checked within 15 minutes of the hot engine being switched off, tried the hand book but that has so much chaff in it.

Loadsa threads about oil.
Checking oil level hot or cold won't make any difference. It doesn't actually expand or decrease in volume.
