I'm a bit paranoid about sump plugs as I once had a Honda engined Rover with a stripped thread sump plug .

I bought the valve thing in question due to my sump plug being removed/replaced 3 times a year but was persuaded not to use it .

I have been changing the oil at least once a year for the last 10 years out of 14 years of owners ship , never had the slightest problem with the sump plug , and even a fatty like me can do it without jacking the car up and using a cat litter tray to catch the oil
Funny as I was doing the plug up last weekend I thought about threads in the sump and wondered what I would do if I started to feel them failing.
I am getting old and weak and for the first time ever took note of the oil filter fitting instructions and used a strap wrench to make sure the filter was tight .

Specsavers is your friend here ,
I dare the sump thread issue is caused by mechanics using impact guns to undo and re fit sump plugs in the past .
