Default Oil change

Should I change the engine oil and filter before putting my car to hibernation? I've done almost 6k miles since changing the oil in spring right after the hibernation. I was quite amazed that I haven't had to add any oil during the summer. I'm using Petronas Syntium 5W-40 and I still have 5 litres of it and a filter. I'll try Castrol Edge at some point and compare the oil consumption.

I'd do it afterwards

Oh and you've got a facelift now, I've never had to top mine up between services

If your not going to use the car I'd leave it until before summer/ reuse.....

I'd imagine new oil is better in a sealed bottle than sat in a sump all winter, but I'm not an oil guru like one or two on here.

Doesn't really matter TBH. I'd personally leave it until next year.

Better to change now and remove the crap/water/fuel/combustion byproducts that will react over time.

In reality there is no difference but in theory changing before sitting up is ideal.

Thanks guys. I was thinking of changing oil after the hibernation too. Would it be over the top? I guess that I wouldn't have to change the filter after the winter. Btw. My car is staying in warm hall over the winter.

Seriously, I have had engines that have not been started/had used oil in them for YEARS and they have been absolutely fine.

Oil absorbs all the crap and holds it anyway, so don't expect your engine to dissolve

It doesn't absorb anything. There is also a reason factory fill oils have corrosion inhibitors added

You won't hurt anything either way, so totally up to your personal choice and your wallet

Perhaps you could enjoy some winter starry nights instead, then no need for storage!

(I'm only half serious on that suggestion, I wish I had the facilities to long term store my S), as it happens I just grab every opportunity for a drive that I can! I'm sure it'll show in our differing sale values in a few years!
