Oil Change @ 4,500
I know its been killed to death, but can anyone recommend what I do for my first service.
I have 4,500 miles on the clock. Do I go mineral/semi synthetic or fully synthetic.
Thanks
Dave

Just my 2 pence worth I have a MY05 now with 2700 miles on the clock at 2000 ish I changed the oil and filter. The oil was very dark even after my extended run in until 1200 miles before full Vtec. I put in some good quality mineral in it. I will change the oil and filter again at 4500. At a dealer for the stamp. I also had the Diff and gearbox oil dreplaced at about the same time but they will not get changed again until 9k.
At the end of the day you pays your money and you take your choice but I would.

i was gonna ge my engine oil changed at about 1000 miles and 4500 the nthe next service but i hadnt even thought of the diff/gearbox oil at oil. i didnt think this would be as critical as the engine.
does anyone know how often the diff/gearbox oil is changed according to honda`s service schedule?

just checked the honda schedule for the dif/transmision fluid changes. the first changes are 27K for the diff and 36K for the transmission.
Rob u mentioned that u changed these at 2700 miles and they wouldnt get changed again till 9K. im a bit confused now!
is changing these fluids after the run in period for the dif/gearbox a bit over the top?
what type of diff oil and gearbox oil should i use. wasnt gonna get this done at the dealer . should i just use the honda recommended oil?

On 2002s (and maybe before), Honda use a special running-in additive until the first service.
That might be worth considering if anyone is thinking of changing their oil prior to that date.
Personally, I'd say it's a waste of time and money.
Maybe later, if you use the car for a succession of very short trips, where it doesn't reach full temperature for prolonged periods, but otherwise I wouldn't bother.
Mayonnaise around the oil filler would be a big clue that the engine is getting hot enough regularly.

what about the theory that most crap n fragments are produced during the run in period and u should change the oil on all three after the run in period
u brought up a good point. my work is only 5 miles away on free flowing roads so my engine will only be warming up as i pull into work!
