I think someone (not me) should make a sticky thread for oil.
FWIW,

Bassoctopus, in his capacity as Guardian of the FAQ, has declined to become embroiled in the argument in the past and has refused to add it to the FAQ. That's fair enough - there's no "right" answer, although I can't help but think a few pointers towards the most frequently used viscosities and types wouldn't hurt.

I'll see whether I can find some time to trawl back through a few threads and pull together a basic draft oil FAQ for discussion purposes.

(Personally, I think people get far too het up about oil. If nothing else, an oil FAQ may at least reassure people that there is not just one product that will do the job and save needless stress)

I agree, people do take oil very seriously.

Its easy to treat the S2000 as something more special than it is. Sure it revs, but other than that its not that hard an environment compared to turbo stuff.

My advice is stick with a main brand FS oil of the viscosity dicatated in the owners book. A semi such as magnatec is going to be fine for a non highly stressed car.

Simple.

Well in the end I plumped for Silkolene Pro S 5W-40

From your responses - It sounds like there is a lot of fuss over nothing with regards oils in the S2K - therefore I assume this stuff should be absolutely fine?......

Seems to be going ok in mine! It was noticably smoother than the old stuff, but then that's same for any oil change really.

Never tried Witch Oil. Should work well with a black car. In October.
