This old chestnut again.

Presumably you have a standard S2K engine.

What does the Honda Service department say?
What does the manual say?
Do you know better than the above?
You are taking a chance asking on here, there are very few motor mechanics!

90% of engine wear occurs when the motor is cold started.
There is a clue in there....

No I think Steve means choose a correct oil with the right cold start viscosity for our climate, with the right level of quality.

The car doesnt need and heaters or coolers. Cooler maybe if you are going to put it on a race track.

My S2000 currently has what the dealer put in it - Mobil 10W 40 Super S. I eventually managed to find somewhere to buy a top up but the car hasn't used a drop ..... unlike my last MY04 which did use a bit !

I will be changing this to Shell Helix 5W 40 'synthetic' when I next get the car serviced.

Why Shell when the Mobil seems fine ? ..... simply because it's available easily, It is also 'fully' synthetic (though apparently not a true fully synth) and Honda told me the car should be on a fully synth 5 or 10W 40 oil, not semi - though if good enough for dealers I am sure it's OK.

If I wanted to spend a bit I would go for Silkolene fully synth - I use it in my TVR (after it was recommended by Opie Oils) and it slowed the cars oil useage by a huge amount ! I certainly wouldn't change from it for the TVR but unfortunately it's a slightly different grade to the Honda ....

TBH though I have never noticed any difference in any oil I have used - apart from the TVR which used to drink far more Shell Helix semi than any other make .....
