I used to just coat some coilovers on an old car with plenty silicone grease. Sure it meant grit and stones stuck to the grease like mad, but it kept the threads free from corrosion. Just had to wipe off the piles of lub.. grease before adjusting.

I think you can get some good spray on grease wax that will dry - a little like dry lube for bicycle chains. Would be more resilient to collecting debris. Might need topping up every now and then.

Are you definitely undoing the correct ring? For ride height it's just a single ring at the bottom locking against the shock body is it not?
The two rings that lock together roughly halfway up the thread adjust preload.

Yep, definitely the right ring. I've adjusted the height but the ring was stuck to the body of the shock so I couldn't wind it back down to lock it in place.

After years of using PlusGas I heard about Bilt-Hamber Ferrosol and it is much better than PlusGas! Tom at TGM attributes this to being able to move my Geo bolts after me spraying all bolts with this stuff every other night.

Trust you to get your nuts stuck

I use plusgas or duck oil. When you finally get them to move remember to coat with copper-ease this time!

PS. Hello again (after an absence of over a year) S2Ki world

Well hello there. I'm glad my nuts brought you back to the fold.

Good call ref the copper ease. I've got a ton of it in my garage - don't know why I hadn't thought about it.

The only advice I remember from my dad was "bugger off and play in the street". Not quite the same life lesson as you got.

Won't lose any sleep over a bit of mangled metal.

Currently bathing in plus gas until I've got a free moment to have another go at them....

Any suggestions for stopping them ceasing up again? I was planning a generous helping of spray grease, although I guess that means grit and grid will stick to it.
Copper slip for the where the collars/nuts contact with the thread, but copper slip/grease isn't water proof. Marine grade or food grade(I think?) grease around the rest of the thread to stop and water/salt getting in.

And try each year to get them moving about-I wish I would take my own advice.... seeing as the car is on axle stands I might...
